Service Disconnection and Late Penalty Moratorium Ended September 30, 2021

To further assist our customers, the Board of Commissioners authorized an installment plan for any customer who is three or more bill periods past due. This will allow customers to make installment payments on their past due balance while maintaining service. Customers three or more bill periods behind will automatically be enrolled in the installment plan, others (less than three bill periods behind) may submit a request.

The example to the right summarizes the basic installment plan process. Affected customers will be mailed a letter outlining their past due balance; the length of their installment plan; and the amount of their bi-monthly installment plan payment. Customers will then see their current charges, as well as their new installment charge on their next invoice. To avoid Service Disconnection, a customer must pay their current charges and their current installment payment by the due date. The first service disconnections are scheduled for January 5, 2022 and will affect customers with a bill date of October 31, 2021. The District will continue to provide a Payment Reminder Notice and Shut-off Notice prior to any service disconnection. Customers will be provided with an extension upon request, which will extend their due date by typically 7-15 days after the regularly scheduled service disconnection date. Customers may pay their installment balance early.

The District will require installment balances to be paid in full upon sale of the property. The District will be required include the total installment plan balance in any escrow request for a final or estimated utility bill. In addition, property owners with tenants on an installment plan, will be required to pay the remaining installment plan balance prior to adding a new tenant to the account.

Warning: Scammers Are Actively Targeting Washington Residents

The District has recently received several reports from customers of scammers targeting District customers by text and telephone calls. The District is warning customers about this increased phishing and scamming activity and also their increased level of sophistication. More information can be found on our scam notice webpage.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 9th at 5:30 PM.

The public may attend and comment in person or via telephonic access; telephonic access is encouraged.
